Lemon Ice Box Pie

My daughter called this am. She wanted to make a lemon ice box pie for herself and Keith. She asked for the recipe - she was at the store to buy the ingredients. I had an "aha" moment.
This is a duty of the mother of the bride. I will get the opportunity to give family recipes and tips on cooking.
She has also requested that we (her father and I) bring her two 5 pound bags of White Lily All Purpose Flour when we drive out to visit in July. We hopefully will pull a trailer of a size to be determined with wedding gifts and other supplies.
My sister Christi and her husband Jeff plan to make the trip with us.

P.S. White Lily flour is sold in the south for "southern cooks." Knoxville, TN.

Three Weeks Left To Plan

I received in the mail on Friday a newspaper clipping of the engagement announcement. My daughter lives in a small Wyoming town, so several people in town saved the announcement for her - including one mailed to her by her insurance agent.

I am sure there will be a flurry of activity during the week prior to the wedding. My daughter will arrive in Memphis on June 13th. Her Memphis bridal shower will be on June 14th. Then, we will do all the last minute planning. She has an appointment to see the cake decorator; she will go to David's Bridal to get her gown steamed; we will complete the finger foods menu.

My church friends will prepare the food and serve as the caterers during the reception. This gift of time and talent is greatly appreciated!

What Are My Duties?

As the mother of the bride - what are my exact duties. My daughter is in Wyoming, so she is making the plans from far away. So far, I have given my opinion only when asked. (I hope.)
I have functioned in a support role. I have reserved the chapel and the fireplace room for the reception at our home church. I have made the dress for the flower girl - my granddaughter, Hannah. I have bought plates and cups for the reception.
As June 20 approaches, I will find more to do - I'm sure.

The photo is one taken yesterday of my oakleaf hydrangea. The plant is about fifteen years old and this is the most beautiful year of blooms. I feel happy every morning when I go on the front porch and see this plant.

First Entry

Hello to all.
This my first post on my new blog. I must say that for me this is quite an accomplishment. I learned to use a computer in 2002. (Age 51) I never wanted to learn - but I was forced to learn for my job.
I am a mother of the bride. The wedding date is June 20, 2009.
My daughter moved to Wyoming last year. The wedding will be in our home city - Memphis TN.
I also have a son, daughter-in-law and three grandchildren. More to follow on my son and his family.
Photos to be posted soon of the bride and groom.
All for now, TravelLady.
