We had planned a stop in Saint Genevieve, Missouri on the way home from Wyoming. So, we left
Warrenton, Missouri before sunrise on Sunday morning. The town of Ste. Genevieve was still asleep when we arrived with few cars about. We followed the signs and drove to the river/ferry landing. The ferry looked like a one or two car vessel; it traveled to the Illinois side of the Mississippi. We could not see a town or buildings on the other side and wondered if the ferry did enough business; but it may have been much busier on a workday.
NOTE: The ferry is mainly used to transport tourists across the Mississippi to other historical sites. (This fact learned after on-line research 1-24-11.)

Man and Dog

James has the "tired face" in this photo. He drove over 600 miles the previous day.
I wanted to see the town of Ste. Genevieve because it was settled in 1732 by the French.
The streets were narrow and the older buildings were quaint and beautiful. It seemed like the old houses were about a mile from the river on a bluff. I am guessing that the river floods at this area. (A flood gate of about 30 feet in height was present on the road to the river.)
more to come of Ste. Genevieve.....
